Why fight the Man when you can be the Man? You are either the Crusher or the Crushed - current society hasn’t left room for a middle ground. Consider the following:

This is a situation where you can be on one of two sides. On one side, you can fight for “the children” and be against those evil guns that kill people. From this side, you don’t have to offer any rights to your victim. You can just sit there and deny them service all day, and there is no rule that you have to allow them to make their own banks, or let them have access to credentials/financial infrastructure so that they can compete. You just stomp on your enemy because they are evil, and have no right to an opinion.
 
On the other side, you can try to argue for your right to be dangerous, for your right to be responsible for what your own two hands can do (or choose not to do). However, by arguing about letting people choose their own actions, you are only supporting the opposing position. Your argument simply swings back on you because the banks can choose NOT to give you service because they have the RIGHT not to. On top of that, your argument will be construed as against ‘the children,’ and so you will constantly be portrayed as that evil guy that wants to kill children by your oppostion. It’s an easy sell to the public, especially when they love being on the side of the ‘Hero.’
 
Knowing this, why would you ever try to fight the prevailing opinion? Why would you ever argue against ‘the Man,’ when the man is simply the mob of majority opinion? You will always lose that argument. That leaves only one alternative: violence. The only way to win for one side is to become ‘the Man,’ and the only way to lose for the other side is to stop being ‘the Man.’ It’s Crush or be Crushed, friend. There is no middle ground. The middle ground is for child killers and racist white men (and the occasional crazy Uncle Tom like Kanye West).
 
Back to this comic though. This whole scene has kind of taken the wind out of my sails for this series. There’s really no reason for Rainbow Code to be working for the police if all he’s doing is guarding cartels. Unless there is a convincing personal reason for him to continue…why would he do it for seven years? Just to earn the hatred of his own family? Why is the cyborg cop threatening priests? Just for the ‘evulz?’ Without some background like scarce resources and hard choices, there’s no reason to care about the bad guys of the story at all. They’re just bad guys.
 
It’s kind of taken the depth away from what I imagined.

Man, kids are really weird with the authoritarianism these days. Back when I was a kid, we stood up to The Man. Now, everyone’s inner child is dead and they want to be The Man. It’s weird. 1990s, the anti-globalism movement, we stood up to consumerism and the IMF and sweatshops. Now, the modern neoliberal consensus is that capitalism is good and sweatshop workers are upwardly-mobile and better off than subsistence farmers. Throughout the 2000s, everyone I knew who had half a brain in their heads was anti-war and isolationist. Now, people are like… “a reasonable amount of wars is fine”. Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World came true. Everyone’s popping anti-depressants and our despicable, jack-booted, undemocratic, imperialist, hegemonic society has become the new normal.
 
Man, if people like you are the majority, no wonder everything’s so screwed.

Heliodryl is expensive because it is either rare, or highly controlled for whatever reason. (Now, if it ends up being controlled just because someone is lining their pockets for personal gain, I would agree with you - however, I don’t see any competitors making their own yet, so I assume it is a rare thing that cannot be replicated easily).

She didn’t choose to get hit by a car, you stupid or what? And in normal countries with normal healthcare this medcare is free. Only for-profit shitholes charge head and hoof for basic rights, and make you slave for labor due to things you can’t control, like bad drivers who hit you. This abomination of a society needs to be tore down, and I applaud Atom for doing her part.

Neither is food these days for people. Places like China are putting in place social credit systems that make it impossible to do business if you have unauthorized opinions. You can’t eat if no one takes your money, or gives you a credit card. Give it 20 years, and similar systems will be everywhere else on the planet to ostracize whatever the new ‘undesirables’ or ‘deplorables’ of the future are.

If Sunstone really is worth as much as it sounds, then 6 months of labor for stealing it really IS letting her off easy. Sure, I bet the food sucked, but they fed Atom all the same while she was in there. They probably even gave her some Sunstone to run her cybernetics, too! I mean, if it really is a scarce resource, and they are using cybernetically enhanced misfits to mine for it, then what does she expect them to do to ponies that steal it? Does she want them to just hand it out to everyone? Make more somehow?
 
It sounds like she’s got a case of “I didn’t ask for this” - she hates that she is stuck with cybernetics that force her to work to maintain them…as if working for food is different.
