What happened to Spike in this premiere really left me bitter inside.
 
Why couldn’t the writers had it so he has a big hand with Sombra’s defeat like in the season 3 premiere?  
But nope, he had to be end up in the Mane 6’s shadows in the end since he’s not an Element Bearer.  
It really just solidified that Spike will always be in the Mane 6’s shadows no matter what in the end due to he’s not a chosen one like the girls are.
 
Really felt like this cancelled out his achievement of Sombra’s defeat in The Crystal Empire episode.
 
The fact its ultimately Discord’s fault this happened to Spike due to brining back Sombra(while impersonating as Grogar) made it worse actually. Discord’s plan just did a lot of damage, more to certain others like the Royal Sisters and Spike.

He hasn’t brainwashed them: his powers center around spreading Fear and Terror, and one such way to have his victims submit to his control is to continuously expose his victims to their worst fears in order to slowly make them force their conscious minds to shut down in order to keep them from going insane, in this state he can send out slight verbal commands since they are now more susceptible, along with mental feedback shielding designed to keep them from breaking free through external influence.

It is with three billion hooves. When I stare into your eyes and shatter your dreams. And break your heart. It is with six billion eyes! Die for Sombra!

I didn’t really like that episode. But yeah, it was a lot darker than this.

Flamboyant, magnificent, great mane, more successful - in this 2 parter Sombra was a far better character than Sunset’s ever been. Love it.

Oh men, that movie was sad, I’m tearing up just by thinking about it.

The key difference is that he used his own power, which he actually had control over. Sunset completely missed that part.

It always was a good plan.
