It’s admittedly a bit of a stretch to compare brainwashed bystanders to candy-coated superzombies, but it’s not like I’m going to get a lot of opportunities to use amass.
@Background Pony #49AC
If you’re referring to the card in one of Phil’s comments, that was something he mocked up to demonstrate how this card would fit in in War of the Spark in response to people misunderstanding amass. Thus far, the closest actual card to Conquest of Ponyville, Widespread Brutality, operates in the complete opposite way. Rather than your Army growing based on what dies, which creatures die is based on the size of your Army.
In short, I’m going to take this as an accidental compliment.
I usually like these Fan made cards, but I feel like this one could have been made more unique instead of just renaming a card that is coming out in the next official magic set.
This wording works because it’s all one ability. Again, state based effects that would check for creatures with zero or less toughness and cause them to die only occur when priority is passed. If you had an enchantment “when a creature enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on it” and you made a 0/0, then it would die because the triggered ability to add the counter would be on the stack still when SBE’s are checked, so the 0/0 would die before it could resolve.
On the other hand, if you had an anthem effect that gave +1/+1 to all creatures you control then it would live. Hence how a card like [[Force of Savagery]], an 8/0, can exist.
@Mix Heart
The creation of the 0/0 token is a part of a single ability which gives it the +1/+1 counters it needs to remain on the battlefield, much like Living Weapon. This card doesn’t create a token and put counters on it - it Amasses 1, a single event that resolves at once in the sum total of all it does. The reminder text just tells us what that looks like in basic terms.
Well if the 0/0 Zombie gets any counters then it could remain on the field, but if at the end phase it remains 0/0 it is removed from the field thus this is complemented by a different set of cards with their own abilities, am I on point here?
The moral of the story is that reminder text has a bit more flexibility to it than rules text. Remember, even after all these years, the land continues to burn.
I was already going to say this, thus the prepared image below, but now it’s highlighted for me more: this is why Fan’s cards are great, is they are so spot-on to actual cards. I would not bat an eye if Fan announced this was an exclusive spoiler for a real card, and I woke up tomorrow and The MTG Salvation Spoiler showed:
The wording is off. Just put | All opponent’s creature’s get -3/-3 until end of turn. Then put a +1/+1 counter on an Army you control. If you don’t control one, put a 1/1 Black Zombie Army token on the field instead. | That way you can stack this spell without losing Zombies, and still have a very powerful effect on the field. The cost is good as is, seeming as it is a Legendary.
@Backgroundpony
State based effects are only checked when priority passes. So if a single spell says “create a 0/0, then put a +1/+1 counter on it” like this one does, it doesn’t die for having 0 or less toughness because priority never changes during the resolution.
The
Butcher still inhabits his carver.

Sorry if I caused confusion. I’m sure they wouldn’t print this card in the same set as Massacre Girl.
I am also taking this as an accidental compliment.

Having built a deck around Force of Savagery, I can attest to that - Graft alone didn’t help it.

The Dude abides.
The land continues to burn.
Ryan’s still in the air.
Amass is an actual mechanic from War of The Spark. It is worded exactly the way it is worded here, and @ElderlyWalrus is right about how it works.

Okay the 0/0 Zombie hits the field and instantly hits the graveyard
create a 0/0 Zombie army token with a +1/ +1 counter on it
