What a touching thought.

I can picture a statue of this pose standing in the town square of Ponyville or even Canterlot, in the far distant future long after they’re gone, once ponies have invented cars and space travel and skyscrapers. I might even draw that picture as a farewell to the series.

No they didn’t. Twilight and the others used nothing but their natural friendship magic this time. The entire point of the elements being gone is that the mane 6 don’t need them in any way, shape, or form to get the most out of friendship.
 
Discord’s speech was about how the 6 will always represent the facets of harmony even after the elements themselves are no more, not that they somehow absorbed the elements or became the elements or anything of the like.
