Xhisrc: Because I think we should keep the markers hidden in the drawers so she can’t chew on them, they’re dangerous.
Lady: As long as she can’t take the cap off she’ll be fine. She’s a infant, she’s exploring. Just leave her be.
Xhisrc: Lady. She had a surge hours after she was born and all throughout our honeymoon. If she can teleport, she can open a marker pen.
Lady: Will you relax, she’s just a baby..!
Xhisrc: It’s because she’s a baby I’m worried..!
Lady: siiiiiighs Fine. I will hide the markers later.
Xhisrc: No, I’ll do it. Because I know you’ll forget.
Lady: No I won’t!
Xhisrc: Yeah, you will.. trots for the kitchen
Lady: growls, watching him walk away ……… Hrmmmm…. sighs
Staring down as their sleeping foal snoozed away in her arms, Lady leaned against her pillow to relax. Months after her birth, Moonlily was growing surprisingly fast, yet still slow. Fast growth was normal for some ponies, and even more common in Nocturnal Dragons. Whelps wandered, explored, chewed and clawed on things to learn about their environment as they progressed. At the same time, not everything is meant to be nibbled on…
Entering the new role as a father, Xhisrc was nervous and very anxious to do everything right. There were plenty of things to be concerned about that Moonlily could get into. Lady’s paint tubes, the trash cans, the cabinets, tool boxes, sewing materials, so much more… Yet Lady didn’t seem to mind too much. Whenever Moonlily was caught gnawing away on certain objects, Lady didn’t seem to bat an eye. She just about let Moonlily do anything she wanted, with the exception of lifting things off high shelves with magic in the small passing surges she had. Moonlily was Xhisrc’s treasure, a piece of him, a delicate flower that needed to be protected. If anything happened to her, he wouldn’t know what to do…
Xhisrc: sighs and walks back over to lay next to Lady Well, they’re hidden now..
Lady: Mmhmm…. tail twitches
Xhisrc: … I’m sorry… I’m just worried.. She’s not even a year old…
Lady: I know..
Xhisrc: And if anything happens to her–
Lady: I know, Xhisrc.. But I seriously think you’re overreacting..
Xhisrc: How? How am I overreacting? I think this is a very reasonable thing to be worried about..!
Lady: She’s a child, Xhisrc, there isn’t a whole lot to be concerned about.
Xhisrc: Uh- I’d say there’s plenty to be worried about!
Moonlily: tiny whimper and curls into Lady’s fluffy chest
Lady: …?! glares at Xhisrc Ssshh..!
Xhisrc: ….. snorts and whispers She’s our child. Our baby. I just want her to be safe.
Lady: I know.. I’ve had children.. I know what I’m doing.
Xhisrc: She’s my child too, and I’d appreciate it if you let me parent..
Lady: Who said I’m not..?
Xhisrc: You’re not letting me now. Right here. Right now. Over marker pens.
Lady: They’re just pens….! She’s a baby, she’s going to chew on things, and I don’t think the plastic outside will harm her…!
Xhisrc: They can if she gets the caps off…!
Lady: She won’t..!
Xhisrc: You don’t know that..!
Lady: I do know, I’m a mother..!
Xhisrc: You’re not the only parent in the room.!
Lady: I’ve done this more times than you at least!
Moonlily: cries out and lets out a loud whimper
Lady: Ah-oh…. Sh-shit, no… Sssshh, ssshhh, it’s okay…
Xhisrc: takes a breath It’s okay Moony, heheh….
For a few short minutes, the two were able to calm the startled foal down and lull her back to sleep. Taking a bit to cool down from the escalating argument, Lady and Xhisrc had a moment to pull their thoughts together.
Xhisrc: You said we were in this together.. On our honeymoon, the first night Moonlily wouldn’t stop crying, and it was stressing us out cuz we couldn’t sleep.. So I’m just trying to understand why you’re not letting me pull my weight here..
Lady: I am, I really am..! It’s just, you know, hard to hold back on my maternal instincts. I’ve done this before, and both times I didn’t have anyone there to help me, and I handled things just fine… I just need to to get used tohaving someone there..
Xhisrc: We’ve been together for over a year now..
Lady: Heheh, funny how time just flies by doesn’t it….?
Xhisrc: Look, I’m here.. She’s our baby, and I’m here. You’re not alone, so please just, let me help.. Let me be a good father.
Lady: You already are a good father–
Xhisrc: It doesn’t feel like I am if you shrug me off every time I try to step in.
Lady: ………… inhales ,……. exhales …… I am sorry..
Xhisrc: Me too…
