Keep in mind, for Hasbro the whole point of the A Real American Hero line wasn’t to sell the figures, it was to sell the vehicles and play sets. So they had to make those as awesome looking an feature heavy as possible - even if they didn’t make any real world sense.

BTW looking back on this stuff some 25-30 years after I was buying it, it’s really kind of ridiculous how GI vehicles had random missile hardpoints everywhere.  
Best exemplified by the little accessory thing here, where there’s literally a death blossom of missiles. The missile on top of the cannon barrel is also a nice touch. And the chin-mounted downward firing laser… on a ground vehicle. I’m pretty sure it was supposed to be attached pointing upwards… but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t.

And her partner Short Fuse also shares a GI Joe name.
