If he knows the consequences, why did he even try to fool her?
Unless he wouldn’t do anything bad, then mother would want to punish him for whatever reason, (or mistakenly without proving anything), then it makes her a monster.
Even in both cases she would know he can hurt himself so could stay more calm.
