Actually, no, MK vs DC did very well and was overall liked as the game was well made, just that the finishers were lackluster. In fact, it ensured that the MK crew would be picked up and become Netherrealm studos.
What did Midway in was the plethora of sports titles and other games that were being done vastly better elsewhere.
As for the character creator, I think you can work on this and get better results. At least look up some of the humanoid or “mature spike” images as reference.
