Not so much in America, and besides, at the time in the ‘80s gaming on PCs wasn’t standardized, or perfected yet. PCs were made more-so for non-gaming applications. In ‘83 the common computer model couldn’t even run a game like “Donkey Kong,” unless it was very expensive.  
Heck, many PCs could hardly replicate the smooth sidescrolling of an NES game or arcade game. They just weren’t built for games back then very well.
 
So still Nintendo still saved home consoles. PC Gaming wouldn’t be the way it is, if it wasn’t for home consoles, (like Nintendo & Sega) or old arcade games. Even if you don’t like Nintendo’s stuff, you should have some respect for how they helped shape the gaming industry.

The console market was dead, but PC gaming continued on just fine. Especially once IBM-clone architecture established itself as the defacto standard and the market saturation took down the Tandys and Commodores and Colecos.

The Eshop for WiiU still exists actually, you’re thinking of the Wii Shop Channel, which hardly anyone used anymore anyway unfortunately, seeing as the Wii is retired basically.
 
As for the crash of ’83, (actually it was more like ‘84) that actually does apply to the USA market, as the gaming market there was dead, so Nintendo actually did save the industry in the US with the Nintendo Entertainment System, (they had to package a toy robot with it, to get stores to accept it, as none of the stores would accept game systems anymore) and said system did help the home industry in some other territories after Atari killed it.  
Super Mario Bros. & Duck Hunt were certainly more fun then playing Pong.
 
As for the “ludicrous” subscription service, isn’t $20 a year much cheaper then what Sony & Microsoft charge?

I mean, yea sure, the Switch has some flaws, but its still a damn good system to play games off of, especially with the amount of choices. no to mention the anime waifu games that companies like Sony want to “Pwotect theiw pwecious chiwdwen” from.

I might accept the Switch if they get rid of the ludicrous subscription-based online services and bring back everything they cancelled from the Wii-U like the eShop and HD Zelda remasters.

Nintendo has been a great company over it’s century-long existence, but there’s been plenty of ups and downs (everything has gone to shit since Iwata-san’s passing). Also, people like to credit them with single-handedly resurrecting the industry after the Crash of ’83, which is absolute nonsense.
