I saw that, and honestly I kinda feel sorry for him. (And things people get bent over like a generic egg-beater cutie-mark honestly are rather petty.)
When I see things like that, it almost makes me regret ever standing up for this fanbase, (and I’ve caught my fair share of crap too on this site) but I just try to remind myself most fans aren’t like that.

I never said you specifically were, I was talking about others, the ones whom were practically lynching the guy.
I’ve seen some fans give Andy Price crap too, despite him being basically the “fan favorite” of the IDW artists. A shame ‘cause he’s one of my favorites too. I still actually like Fosgitt’s. (Though, I prefer his earlier stuff & covers.)
I also wish somebody else besides Tony Fleecs would do the Equestria Girls comics, I wasn’t too fond of his style in that.
His cover art (especially the Transformers crossover ones) were impressive though.
Agnes is probably my least-fav’ IDW MLP artist honestly, (her art is kinda cute, but the round heads, and the same 6 emoji expressions look kinda bland) yet I’ve never seen anyone critique her, aside from this image. >>1129287

How was I being an angry fan? I was just stating my opinion pretty tamely, and not to Fosgitt even. If I hated his work completely, I wouldn’t have commissioned the piece you just commented on. I love what he did for me, I just don’t think the very cutesy style lends too well to the feel of the series. And I never claimed to not want different styles of art either? Andy Price takes a lot of liberties and his stuff can be insanely detailed, and that’s why he’s my favorite. I don’t want just flat out show style in the comics, and never implied otherwise.
In fairness, his art has only been used for sillier, or slice of life stories, which I think fits fine, (and it’s not like MLP was ever a huge dark serious series) so it was never really used for out-of-place more “serious” stories.
But yeah, I agree the fans kinda went overboard with their dislike of his style, I agree, even attacking him personally, accusing him of things, attacking his social profiles, and such.
@Bonk
“Too frequent?” He hasn’t really done a MLP comic in years. I wonder if angry fans kinda scared him off the series honestly.
To be honest, I was never that bothered by his art style being so drastically different, and cartoonier. (Cartoonier artists are very underappreciated in the brony fandom, which is very discouraging for a “cartoonier” artist like myself.)
Sometimes I like seeing characters like the MLP ones drawn in different styles, as it’s a nice change of pace.
Even the “show accurate” artists, and show itself go off-model occasionally, and that’s something I like seeing, as well, because the characters would look very bland if they always looked the same, never had exaggerated expressions, and such.
I like variety, so I don’t understand why many fans want the comics to look like they were done by one artist all the time.

Trouble is Rob is also a terrible person who is notoriously difficult to work with, yet he keeps making millions. So it’s hard to see him with much positivity. :P He has definitely gotten better, but trust me, growing up in the nineties Liefeld was a death knell for your favorite comic. Unless you were one of the average empty headed kids who bought into the extreme marketing and probably played Madden games on Genesis, while making fun of little Skoon for loving Mario. WELL WHO’S NOT IN JAIL WITH A METH ADDICTION AND CHILDREN BY TWO DIFFERENT WOMEN NOW, SETH!?
ahem
As for Fosgitt I agree. I got nothing against the guy’s work, it’s just not my personal preference for the MLP cast (who can all be as thoughtful and emotional as they can be funny and off beat). I think the hate he got from the fandom was a bit ridiculous, and stupid, and very Madden loving meth-addiction Seth of them.
You hit the nail on the head though, he’s all comedy and cutsie, not much for dramatic moments. Which is why I think his stuff would be perfect for Warner Brothers comics, although I SWEAR I’ve seen his style in those before. I haven’t googled any info at this point yet, so he may have.
Regardless, he’s got enough patience to do comics in the first place so I certainly don’t put myself above him. haha
So far I think Amy Mebberson has been my favorite. She’s got the aesthetic I like for MLP.
I feel like Rob has more bad moments than being all around terrible. He has done decent work, but then he’s also done horrible proportions that people tend to remember better. Ken is actually bad, though.
As for Fosgitt, I think his art is great and I wouldn’t mind him doing MLP comics if it weren’t for it being a little too frequent. There isn’t a whole lot of room for seriousness with his style, so he might be better suited for covers and book-ending shorts typically.
I recently discovered that a lot of folks are not fond of his work in the MLP comics, and admittedly I am not personally big on his style either (I wish the ponies he drew didn’t all look like Tweety Bird), but he is objectively skilled. I think his work is better suited for something like Animaniacs.
Y’all want a truly BAD comic artist? Look up Rob Liefeld. Then we have Ken Penders too. WOOF.
