Thanks for the info. You seem like the kind of guy who would appreciate the EAWS this pony is wearing.
With the NWU, the pattern consists of the primary colors most often used in painting a ship… so a Sailor can get an oil/grease stain, or a spot of paint on his/her uniform, and not have to trash the entire thing. It’s also easier for wear and maintenance, which follows in suit with the other branches’ utility uniforms.
And, speaking as a SAR guy, the “aguaflage” thing is a non-issue. If someone goes overboard on a ship, they’re either wearing coveralls (Which are also blue), or Type III trousers and a brown shirt… that, or old woodland BDUs. Personnel working on the flight deck also need to have a survival vest which includes a chem light.
As a sailor, I will add to that. Rule number 1: the Navy never makes sense.
