Young Pun and friend travelled Equestria after finishing school. Restaurant they stopped, got robbed by griffin. Owner refused to hand over something, but for unknown reasons griffin had piece of paper with killer joke written on it. Griffon, who was immune because he didn’t understand Equestrian language, read joke and ponies in the restaurant laughed themselves to death. Pun was only survivor but watched best friend dying in her hooves. Guards arrive and found Pun. Offered her to join fancy undercover guard division. Pun accepted and was trained. Pun now also knows killing joke and used it in the past to kill Discord, but has to be careful when using it since it’s a possible weapon of mass destruction.
 
That’s the gist of it. Although I may’ve forgotten a few details or got something wrong.
