While they’re not going “full-on communist,” a la Stalin, the city does have a rather ‘interesting’ history regarding city & local government, over the past two or three decades. The state has had to come in, appoint/remove officials, new/special councils have been created or elected – I suppose one could view them as ‘soviets’ in the true sense of the word, not the bastardized ‘murican concept of it. If you want to see a prime example of corruption though, look up Kwame Kilpatrick, mayor of Detroit in the early-2000s. The Flint water crisis also comes to mind; it’s still unfolding, and while not directly a “Detroit problem,” it does have most of the typical underlying corruption indicators observed in post-industrial Rust Belt cities.
