I have this mental image of her making sure no one is on the farm aside from her, going inside the house, closing and shuttering all the windows, locking the door and wedging a chair against it, going up to her room, locking that door, going to the closet, and pulling the pear out of a hidden box on the top shelf.
 
No one must know, after all.
