Celestia: “It was lovely, Twilight. We went on exciting adventures, explored the inner-workings of Equestrian services, Luna and I almost turned into Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker during a fight, and we watched the moon-sun transition together. I think this was just the break we needed to rule the nation through our final stretch! Thank you for that, Twilight.”
Twilight: “It was my pleasure, Celes… wait, what was that about the two of you turning~~”
Celestia: “ANYWAY, we’ll take over from here, let us know when you’re ready to take over full-time, farewell!”

The Season 9 Retirement Party continues! …Yeah, sorry this one’s so late; Super Mario Maker 2 came out and I got distracted. Anyway, this comic is based on Between Dark and Dawn, aka: “Celestia and Luna Cheat and Try to Retire 13 Episodes Early: the Episode”. This was a fun, if a little weird, episode. It’s good to see the royal sisters in a more casual environment, bonding, arguing, Luna catching up on all the things she missed while on the moon, it was a good time. The Mane Six swan subplot, though… I dunno, it didn’t really feel like it resolved itself fully. The Mane Six start learning to delegate, and then the next time we see them, they’re ruining the sky for everypony; we never really got to see how the swan parade thing actually turned out once Fancy and his crew were on board. It wasn’t really the point of the episode, but it feels like we could’ve cut most of the Mane Six scenes and we wouldn’t have lost much.

Also interesting how eager Twilight was to take over for Celestia and Luna, considering how resistent she was to such an arrangement during the premiere. I get that it was just temporary this time, but it seems like Twilight is opening up to succeeding her mentor more and more over time. Which is good; it means the additional time she requested isn’t being wasted, and this experience should be good for her; to feel more prepared, to know what she’s getting into… wow, this is really happening, isn’t it? Can’t wait to see how this all turns out! Super excited for the home stretch right now!
