Sooooo… These two have been my guilty pleasure ship for a LONG while, ever since I started watching the show. I was discouraged from shipping Fluttershy with Big Mac since I saw a post somewhere saying something along the lines of ‘i don’t get why people ship them, they have no chemistry and people just ship them because they both don’t talk much’, which literally makes zero sense?? So I finally said fuck it, FlutterMac is joining my NG verse canon. I just adore them together. Some backstory and notes because I’m FlutterMac trash and I love it.

Macintosh and Sugar Belle eventually broke up, realizing their relationship was mostly based on childish infatuation. Mostly because I completely loathe their in-show ship and how their relationship is handled. After that, Big Mac got pretty depressed. Although it was barely noticeable to most ponies, his family picked up on it really quick. They tried tirelessly to cheer him up, some attempts working, other attempts.. really failing. It took a while to get him back to his old self again, and part of it may have involved Apple Bloom, a chicken, a broken down carriage and a journey to Canterlot that they both won’t soon forget. After that whole fiasco, Sweet Apple Acres ended up being invaded by a whole pack of wild, apple-loving jackalopes from the Everfree Forest. Big Mac called upon the help of Fluttershy to wrangle them up and bring them back to their forest home, since Applejack was out on a harmony mission more like honeymoon with Rarity. While taking care of the problem, Mac and Flutters ended up talking, and ended up striking up a friendship. Fluttershy had barely spoken to Big Mac before, she hadn’t realized how sweet and polite he really was. And Macintosh had never really realized how kind and pretty Fluttershy was…

Yeah, feelings hit, and they hit hard. Both ended up talking more, and getting a hardcore crush on one another. But Macintosh didn’t want to jump into another relationship, especially after the disastrous breakup with Sugar Belle. Fluttershy was barely subtle, asking Big Mac for help for a few things pertaining to her care of animals, even things she could easily do on her own. Her friends picked up real quick, the first being Rarity, and the others soon after. They pushed her to tell him, to do anything! She ended up asking Mac to help her build an enclosure for some bigger animals she had taken in, and decided to set up a nice little picnic to surprise him. He was surprised, and confused as Fluttershy was a blushy, clumsy mess (even more than usual). She ended up blurting that she thought she liked him more than a friend, but understood if he didn’t feel the same. Big Mac hesitated, unsure of how to reply. He knew he felt the same, but didn’t want to have his heart broken the same way again… But gosh, Flutters was so compassionate, so gentle, so amazing… he couldn’t help but get lost in her beautiful blue eyes, endless, just like the ocean.. He ended up mumbling the words ‘I love you’ without realizing it, and blushed furiously. And the rest is basically history, dating happened, marriage, and the whole shebang! I might explore their relationship more in future pieces, but for now, here are some random notes on them!!

Fluttershy’s full name is ‘Flutterby Shy’. She mostly just goes by Fluttershy, as that’s what everyone calls her, and she’s too shy to say anything about her full name. Only Big Macintosh really calls her Flutterby, and hoo boy does it make her already-shakey-knees weak.

I based Fluttershy’s wings on hummingbird wings, as I thought that would fit her really well. Pretty happy with how they came out! I headcanon that pegasus wings are similar to birds, best suited for different activities. Pegasi like Wonderbolts have bird-of-prey like wings, made for speed and agility, able to dive and catch the wind again in the blink of an eye, while normal pegasi have songbird-like wings, or a mixture of other types. This is a concept I really look forward to exploring in other drawings!

Big Mac’s full name is just ‘Macintosh Apple’, the ‘Big’ part of his name is a nickname he acquired, as opposed to his father, who was born with the name ‘Bright Macintosh’. Fluttershy calls him ‘Mackey’ with endearment.

After getting married, Fluttershy and Mac built a dream home, a cozy cottage on the edge of Sweet Apple Acres, not far from the woods. Flutters turned her old home into an official animal sanctuary and hospital, and works as a vet and nature conservationist. Mac still works for the good ol’ family apple business, tending to the farm and selling apple products with his sister.

Mac is genderfluid and Flutters is a transgirl, sorry I don’t make the rules bye

As they grew closer, they both began to encourage each other and build up each other’s confidence. Fluttershy was the first pony Big Mac came out to as genderfluid, and she was extremely supportive. Their personalities and character has grown thanks to each other, and Mac talks a lot more than he used to.

They’re shameless flirts, especially since getting married, and aren’t afraid to be mushy or sometimes suggestive in public. Often accompanied by public teasing and some desperate seks when they get home.
