Rules don’t care about friends unless there’s a rule that gives them status.
 
I do suspect that the sheer amount and substance of the rules, many of which don’t make the game any more fair or fun (not paying attention by sleeping should really be one’s own loss, for example), indicate that in fact using those rules for offensive disqualification was intended to be part of the game. Nonetheless, there should have been a rule to prevent team members from disqualifying their own partners by the rules.
