Well, kids do wear shorter and shorter shorts, and some do even wear short tops (but that’s rare). So some time in the future, wearing “sports panties” might be commonplace for even kids.

“buruma” comes from “bloomers”.
But because bloomers is already occupied by the underwear type, I do find it more appropriate if it instead used the tag “sports panties”; it’ll be like sports/gym shorts, but without legs, or so short legs it’ll look very much like panties. … I made a forum post about this tag discussion, and we should move over there: *Japanese buruma and sports panties

Although “sports shorts” and “sports panties” don’t have any limit on how high up they go. So the tag “sports panties” can still be appropriate.
No. It’s a japanese high school gym uniform. It has some very short shorts for girls. While they’re short like sport panties, unlike sport panties, those shorts go all the way up to the waist, like mom jeans.
