Page 281 - The Spy Standoff

I’ve had players discover that they’re about to walk into a trap, change their course, and instead lure out the enemies into a trap of their own making. It frustrated me at the time because I was a pretty inexperienced DM, but looking back on it, it was rather glorious.

For today’s comments, tell a story about a trap the players set up.

DM: By this point, you’ve amassed a large amount of jewels. Roll a Perception check.
Rarity: <roll> Oh, drat. Only a 14.
DM: You look around. Everything seems perfectly normal, but you can’t help but feel like something’s off. Spike looks around and… <roll>
Spike: Um, miss Rarity? I think we’re being… w-watched.
Rarity: Just pretend everything’s normal, Spike.
Spike: What?
Rarity: Let them make the first move.
Spike: Are you crazy?!
Rarity: It’s just a dangerous game of cat and mouse between us and a mysterious hunter, Spike. No need to overreact.
