I’m always a big fan of roleplaying opportunities, especially when there’s an excuse to zoom in on a smaller group of characters. Extra mini-sessions are a great tool for doing just that. Alternatively, roleplaying via text or post between sessions is also a good tool. The only major downside is that it’s more content for the DM to manage, especially if it sprawls into something bigger, which is why FiD: Dynamic Duo has been difficult to get off the ground.

DM: Your attempts to keep Rarity and Pinkie Pie in the cart fail.
Twilight Sparkle: Then we have a dilemma. Do we go back for them or secure Applejack? We should go back, right?
Rainbow Dash: We can do both! You two make sure they’re okay, and I’ll chase down AJ myself.
Twilight Sparkle: That sounds like a plan that’ll end in bruises. Which we all came along to avoid. In that case, we might have to stay the course.
Rainbow Dash: That’s why I don’t like being diplomatic. You always have to compromise!
Twilight Sparkle: We’ll be able to come back for them later, I guess. Let’s not lose Applejack.
DM: Really? Okay then. For the sake of the mission, Rarity and Pinkie Pie are left behind after their tumble. Surrounded by miles and miles of open desert.
Pinkie Pie: Great! Now we’ll have EXTRA time to bond! We can even have a mini-session adventure with just the two of us! This is gonna be FAAANTASTIC!
Rarity: I’m starting to see the appeal of backstabbing…
