I don’t think so. I think Starlight’s chance is coming! She was on the front title with Ember, Rarity, and Smolder, which means she’s an important character. Plus, she was in the cardboard box at the chessboard scene with Discord, which means she’ll be coming out to play soon!

I think one reason why people rejected the “obvious” choice to go with Twilight to visit the Princesses last chapter is that in previous chapters, some “obvious” choices have closed of important paths. For example, in chapter 2, it seemed obvious to offer help to Twilight, yet this choice closed off the chance of a scene with Starlight Glimmer (without any indication that the choice would involve Starlight). Based on this precedent, people likely thought that the choice of going to visit the Princesses would decide between a scene with the Princesses and a scene with someone at the school/in Ponyville.

Also, I’m guessing Pharynx volunteered to write the letter for Thorax, who didn’t realize the trick he was going to play on him until it was too late. And, based on the fact that Thorax used the same paper, I’m guessing the changelings are running low on that resource.
