I really don’t care who meets whom offscreen as long as they don’t play a pivotal role in the whole storyline, but you know who met offscreen who really, really really should have met onscreen?
big macintosh and sugar belle.
Yes, it would have made sense for Fluttershy not to mentioned him… which made it even worse when they somehow all knew him. I guess I could buy Rainbow Dash knowing him considering she was childhood friends with Fluttershy but there was no reason everyone else had to meet him offscreen.
to be fair, it makes complete and total sense if fluttershy is too ashamed to talk about her brother much. zephyr wasn’t the captain of the royal guard, ruler of an empire for reasons unexplained, with more powerful magic than twilight sparkle for reasons unexplained, and a beautiful alicorn princess for a wife instead of just his own hoof. nor did he have a child who was the most important special snowflake pony to ever be born in all of equestria.
if shining had been a no-name grunt who couldn’t get a girl to look at him twice I might’ve liked him.
To be fair to Holiday and Lofty, they existed for a good while in the comics before they did in the show.
Also, in the same vain, I feel Moondancer deserves a mention.
At least that was only two seasons into the show and the characters were surprised to find out that Twilight had a brother. Unlike those other characters that showed up much later and the characters somehow knew them already and sometimes even acted as if they were there all along (Fluttershy’s brother, Scootaloo’s aunts).

I’m still butthurt about Shining Armor not being even subtly alluded to until suddenly Twilight was invited to the wedding of the brother she definitely always had, yes, from the very start.
Not in the tv series anyway.

I’m still butthurt about Equestria Girls
I hearby declare that canon
*Discord was Grogar.
Only hitch in this plan is aging, but if Discord can raise the dead he can probably make an old pony younger, too. He’s done equally impossible stuff before.

Meghan McCarthy: Twilight will not outlive her friends.
Fans: So… does this mean she will die first?
Meghan McCarthy: Yes.
Boy were they wrong
It’s up to us to fix it, then. It doesn’t matter what’s “canon” as it does what the general fandom does with the bits canon gave us.

STORY PROMPT: “The clock is ticking”
“Twilight Sparkle will not outlive her friends.”
…The prophecy is cutting it rather close.
“But when I imagine the future, all I can think of is that we won’t be together”
And yes I realize the context of this quote is not based on this but it really does fit doesn’t it?
Edited
…Then I would have preferred it if that final episode didn’t show the future, or not this far into the future. That’s just messed up.

It’s just inevitable that within a blink of time all of her friends will die if the universe continued on.
Wow that’s sad.
Agreed, an Alicorn Mane Six would have been great. Friends Forever indeed. But unfortunately we know from the leaks that the writers considered the rest of the Mane Six aging to be better then an Alicorn Mane Six.
Don’t. We already had too many alicorns.
…well. they’re not elderly yet. And if we look at Pinkie’s daughter, Pinkie herself can’t be that old.
I choose to believe Rarity’s gray streak was her own stylistic choice. You know, like how Mayor Mare dyed her pink mane gray.
Still, seeing those age-wrinkles really hurt.
But, they still got some fight in them. So who knows. Maybe, I would chose to believe, they could still become alicorns later in the midst of some dramatic adventure yet to come for them.
I hope someone writes that story.
