Headcanon time!
 
Batponies don’t have as many variations as non-batponies, and tend to have little to no variation in coloring as well. They are very similar to pegasi, being small and lithe but strong. They have slit pupils and can see in the dark. They also have large ears to help with their ability to echolocate. They eat fruit and bugs. There used to be rumors of vampire batponies, but as far as anyone can see, there’s just the friendly (if a little aloof) batponies we know. Batponies are chosen more than any other kind of pony for Luna’s royal guard, given their natural nocturnal nature. They can function during the day, but tend to be irritable because their eyes are very sensitive to light and the sun’s light tends to cause them pain.
