A lot depends on what the Equestrian society will be like. I admit that even in ordinary (canonical) Equestria, blinders are likely to be used firstly for BDSM role-playing games, and secondly, they can be put on ponies if they work in harness as punishment for some offense (correctional labor).
The most interesting thing about blinders is partial sensory deprivation. It promotes the development of trust in the driver, the pony should not hesitate to carry out his commands. So, with big blinders, the pony can’t see what is on the side of her, but the driver pulls the reins and orders her to turn, and the pony has no choice but to obey and believe that there really is a road there, that there won’t be a pit, wall or something else in front of her. This is an important psychological moment that develops trust and submission.
It also works with a team of 2, 3, 4 ponies side by side - blinders together with a strap of the “capsule” type (alternative names - flash, snot, eight) or with special bridles with a ball instead of a bit (the first moment deviating from the real harness) effectively prevent the pony from communicating with each other. (The mentioned belt is depicted here, and prevents the wide opening of the mouth, pressure on the chin).
In addition, a pony in a bridle with blinders cannot see the cart, and if properly attached, it will not know what kind of cargo it is carrying. I am also attracted to the fact that while the driver is silent, the pony can only guess under whose control she is, but in any case, the pony is obliged to obey.
Perhaps that is why I did not portray a cart and a cabby - it can be a role-playing game, and there will be another pony in this place, but it can also be a pony society with human, with furry or some other biological species.
And in such a society, the position of a pony can be absolutely anything, you can give free rein to your imagination. The only thing I would pay attention to is that despite the restrictions, ponies are taken care of. There are no traces of a whip or other signs of abuse, the pony is not all in the dirt (it is regularly washed), and in general…her situation is not so bad))
