@Beau Skunky
I did say “Jank CG”. One of the facts that drew me to the show on the first place is the dark magic put in place to make Flash look so good. And yeah, the timberworlves back in season 3 I think? (I stopped watching mid season 6 so I don’t know if they show up again) were one of those moments that made me raise a metaphorical eyebrow (But they still looked fine). They somehow looked way better on Season 2, not sure why… Maybe the flashback filter helped to camouflage it?
@gato
If you’re anti-CG, then you should hate the show too, because it’s all drawn digitally on computers too, and has had a few CGI/3D-ish effects, as well. (Like the Timberwolves.)
@Beau Skunky
I didn’t see anyone say the movie looked ugly.
I did. I’m very picky about style and since it wasn’t the same as the cartoon it felt very outputting to me, also at the first sight of some jank CG here and there on the first trailer I just started recoiling and rolled away from anything related to the movie like this guy.
@iTwilightSparkle
I understand that, but sometimes change can be a good thing. Heck if MLP didn’t change after G3, we’d just have G3 again, and no brony fanbase.
The “Pony Life” art style isn’t my main concern, (at least it’s kinda cute) but as you said, I hope the humor, and shorts are decent, at least, and not too over the top like “Teen Titans Go!” (Though, I’ll admit that show does have it’s genuinely funny moments when it’s not being too mean-spirited, or annoying.)
@QueenChrysalisIsBestVillain
I like the storybook style, so to each their own. I don’t love every IDW artist, or whatever, but sometimes I get tired of seeing fanart, and such that emulate the G4 show style exactly, or the same thing, over, and over, so I sometimes like a change of pace.
@Beau Skunky
I can see the appeal of that “Classic storybook” art style, reminds of the art in the bedtime stories my mother used to read me when I was around 4-6.
But… I dunno, it doesn’t really gel with what’s happening on that page, a cleaner art style, or one with more vibrant colours would have worked better there I feel.
People don’t like it when things deviate from established norms, that is just a fact. I can come at most things with an open mind, in regards to art shift from medium to medium, and I will concede that Twilight there looks pretty cute, but… I dunno, I want to say it’s the tone of the stuff we’ve seen.
It’s too over the top, and going from a middle ground to an extreme is just going to be off putting to a lot of people, I feel.
@Beau Skunky
I don’t think it’s just because fans only want one thing. The story book is ugly. Why would you use that as an example? Technically Andy goes far off model. He has a very unique but good style. But just because I complain about certain styles doesn’t mean I want only one style. I like those long ago leaked concept arts, I love movie style, hell I like most every toy model of each generation of pony.
Not to mention, some flipped out over the official storybook art style. >>269108 (Which I kinda liked.) And some bashed artists for the IDW comics, including fan-favorite Andy Price just for slightly going off-model.
@The Smiling Pony
Fans can be rather entitled. (I like your avatar BTW.)
That’s what we thought about EqGirls before it came out, so I’m sure Pony Life may have it’s own cult following, as well…
…Assuming it’s any good. I myself have mixed feelings on it, but I’m not going to lose sleep over it.
@Beau Skunky
They most likely aren’t, there are plenty of folk that think “the fandom” is the show’s real audience and Hasbro should live in fear of its whims.

Because I don’t care anymore

How could they say it looked ugly? It look and animated beautifully. At least, that’s what I thought.
Yes, somebody do eet!

I saw quite a few actually do, and not just on this site.
Not to mention, some flipped out over the official storybook art style. >>269108 (Which I kinda liked.) And some bashed artists for the IDW comics, including fan-favorite Andy Price just for slightly going off-model.
It’s like fans only want ponies drawn one way.
Believe it, many said it.
I didn’t see anyone say the movie looked ugly.
People said the same about Equestria Girls, the 2017 MLP Movie, and such, as well, actually.
Honestly, I’ve seen worse, it at least looks better, and a bit cuter then “Thundercats Roar.”
Sure, Equestria Girls is fun and we love them. But the designs for them are still ugly.
