Based upon a mother quote that my Grandmother told me before she passed and Tara Strong Tweeted during mothers day. “Don’t ever lose your unicorn.”
I mean I can see that statement on the lines of the things you grew up with or found magical at a time, especially childhood; and never forgetting the things that are most memorable to you. With this generation of ponies, it would have a stronger meaning as this show has unicorns in it, but it had a huge impact on so many people and was a rare treat that really is as if once in a decade. Truly in that sense a Unicorn.
The meaning is mutual to the people in our lives as well that touched our hearts, from parents to grandparents, you only get but one like them. In their time, they are that rare treat that you only will have but so few precious moments to spend time with. Same with friends you knew, same with anyone you ever met. To me, I sort of see that statement as never losing the memories and moments that shaped you to who you are; be it a person or a tv show.
