I did not count the background characters for exactly this reason.  
I hope the writers fix that in Season 4 and introduce some male characters.

Well, there are numerous characters that may be unattached… but they have no personality or background to work with.
 
They’re personifications of stereotypes that get a couple lines in one episode. Background ponies with a minor speaking part, basically. Braeburn, Soarin, Donut Joe, Thunderlane, etc. It would be like trying to ship… uh… Captain Picard with Ensign Randomperson, when the only character development you have for Ensign Randomperson is the look on their face when they said “Aye, sir” in response to Picard’s order in the one episode they appeared in.
 
They’re really not much more than an OC at that point. And don’t get me wrong, I like background pony shipping. I do. But they’re no more valid a choice than one of the mane six.

Yeah we got one male character in the show (Shining armor is married, Prince Blueblood…just no!, and Fancy Pants has his trophy pony).

Well with a lack of good male characters…with who are we supposed to ship her? OCs? :D

This is why I want her to have a guy friend so it can shatter the fandom more so than Alicorn Twilight. There wouldn’t be enough popcorn in the world.
