well, once you start silencing the ass-backwards, socially regressive extremists, it starts bleeding into grey areas of actual creativity, like edits, or offensive satire. artists are pretty restricted if they want to post on derpibooru, and they’re even more restricted anywhere else.
 
but mostly it’s just marketing. “everyone” tells artists that 4chan is where you do threads discussing a character and drawing fanart for them. and 4chan keeps banning those threads, but people still think it’s the place to go. because someone told them so, when they weren’t really thinking about it, so now it just seems natural to them.

Yeah obviously, but it’s definitely a part of the culture there. Both the creative meming culture and the ass-backwards, socially regressive, extremist elements are a huge part of 4chan’s general culture. Even if some people there don’t subscribe to one element or the other, there is a definite average instance of bigotry there far more-often than other places. At the same time it feels a lot more free and creative than most places as well. It’s too bad there’s few sites out there that have one without the other.
