There’s a difference between not being realistic and making things in the world that completely contradict other things. Imagine if we found out five episodes into FiM that other ponies can raise the sun and moon too. It kind of takes a way from a lot of the things the series could do.

It’s because LPS is a show that runs off cartoon logic.
Explains why she can understand them. Doesn’t explain why no one questions a hedgehog in a Hawaiian shirt walking down the street with a boombox on his shoulder.

Nah, the show is too “by-the-book” for that. Blythe isn’t supposed to tell anyone that she can speak/understand the pets, but they interact with other humans just like they do with her. One of the main characters literally walks down the street with a boombox over his shoulders, singing, and people start dancing.
That’s my main confusion with the show. Why have a main character that has a unique gift/skill when it doesn’t even really matter? Why have her worry about seeing the animals talk to other humans when they don’t act surprised?
That would make the series have a very dark ending wouldn’t it?
It works well as a headcanon but i doub’t we’re going to see that in the show itself.
Blythe first sees the pets talking after the dumbwaiter in her room she climbs into falls and hits the bottom of the shaft.
The end of the series will be her waking up in the hospital, wondering where all of her talking animal friends are. They take her home, and she just sees normal guinea pigs and rabbits.
