“Where do you live?” Mulberry asks.
“Here in the city hall on the second floor. There is a staircase back near my office.” He says with a nod. “Just give a knock. If I’m not there I’m probably in my office.”
“Don’t do it!” Antoine warns. “It’s a trick I’m sure!”
Goldenclaw continues as if Antoine hadn’t interrupted and says, “Feel free to look around town. There is still some daylight left.”
“And certainly don’t do that. The more you find, the worse danger you’ll be in!” The unicorn repeats from behind the grate.
“Anyway, come. We should probably leave them be.” Gamble says, motioning towards the door.
“My love, I’ll visit you tomorrow. Please stay safe.” Mulberry says as she steps back from the grate.
“Goodbye.” He says sadly in return.
They both walk towards the exit, and as they do Goldenclaw stops by his daughter’s door and says, “River, I was thinking of letting this nice mare use your room while she stays in town. I hope you don’t mind.”
“Not at all!” She says giggling. “I don’t need it!”
“My goodness, what is troubling the young one?” Mulberry asks the gryphon as they close the door behind them. “And who is this Mr. Peacock?”
“My answer to both is the same. I’m not sure.” He says with a worried sigh. “A friend of hers, apparently.”
The mayor bids her goodbye, and she stands in the lobby for a second and thinks. She has three different places she could stay now. The hotel, the mayor’s abode, and Antoine’s flat.
The latter of which will hopefully be a last resort.
She looks up at a nearby clock to see it’s only about 3pm. Indeed, she does have a few hours of sun left.
