Haven’t even watched this show, but I gotta say this is a really neat medium to express through.

I wanted to edit but site engine said “I can’t let you do that”, because I’m a background pony, so I’ll just add it here.

In early seasons Pinkie would only come off as childish when she didn’t understand the seriousness of a situation, like, when Celestia disappeared but Pinkie thinks she’s hiding (s01e01), or when Pinkie eats a bunch of cakes messing up important preparations (s01e10). But those were few and far between, and because of the aforementioned communication issue, which is the bulk of her “random moments”, even when she doesn’t understand a situation it doesn’t feel like it’s because she is a literal child, but it feels like she’s a bit “special”. Which also was an endearing quality.

That Pinkie above, in the gif, - is a literal child.

“Objection!” Ace Attorney style finger pointing.

In early seasons most of Pinkie Pie jokes are based around her having a communication problem - not understanding other people, not understanding when she is being criticized, or not knowing when she needs to explain herself, or not being able to explain in a way that others will understand. Which was a funny contrast to the fact that she is an absolute social butterfly and the most talkative out of the entire cast. She wasn’t dumb or childish, she had a communication issue. Moments when she was actually acting childishly are very rare in early seasons. The beginning of “Swarm of the century” when she eats a bunch of cakes messing up preparations is probably the strongest one of them.

Frankly, alot of things you guys complain about “later seasons doing” arguably were sometimes (or even arguably “always”) present in the earlier seasons too. Pinkie had her childish/stupid moments in earlier seasons too. Like fake Cadnce even pointed it out, remarking Pinkie made the place look like a “6 year old girl’s birthday party,” to which Pinkie happily responds, “Thank you!”

So honestly, this short doesn’t even seem that OOC to me. and I don’t even think it’s meant to be taken so seriously.

Crazier doesn’t equal dumber. I really don’t like the direction of “Pinkie Pie should act like a 5 year old” that started somewhere in mid-late seasons (and is present here in full force), but I would be completely fine if she was more “not right in the head”/“over the top” kind of crazy.

I kinda disagree, but to each their own. (And in fairness, this is a new canon.)

Y’know, according to Lauren Faust, her original idea for Pinkie Pie was to actually make her even more crazy then she was in the actual FiM show. >>2198266 So actually, this might be closer to her original idea. FiM/Hasbro actually toned her down ironically.
