Whips can really hurt, or even damage the body. Even leather ones.
 
Especially, ones like the “Vampire Killer,” (the traditional Castlevania whip) which is a chain whip, with a morning star spiked metal ball on the end. Though, the one shown here looks more like a leather whip, but those can still do some damage as I stated.

Come to think of it, would a whip really hurt Tirek? And, even if it did, couldn’t he just absorb Pone Punny’s magic and heal himself that way?
