I actually had this really awesome idea that during this the whole “Equestrian Games” episode set in the Crystal Empire, there’s going to be a huge surprise celebration for Spike, and he had to stay behind to avoid having the surprise spoiled.
 
But that would imply the writers have a drop of respect or care for the poor bastard.
