The “Communism” that was widespread in the 20th century was not the Communism imagined by Marx. They all were just thinly veiled authoritarian regimes that used the promises of equality and power to the proletariat as a way to keep people loyal to the regimes.
 
Oh, and Equestria is essentially modern day China.
