To an extent, yeah. He does have his moments, usually when he’s temporarily growing a pair at someone. At the same time, you have been carefully preserving the Everyman aspect. If you were to ask me to describe the differences in personality between Smoothie and JB, I might have to think hard to come up with anything past “Smoothie isn’t totally ruined for anyone less than a goddess.”
I admit that I was going for a reader avatar with him, and at this point he did just stumble into the situation. I hope I have made him grow into somepony more interesting, starting in the couple of episodes after this. I have at least tried.

You’re almost certainly right about why. In case it wasn’t clear, I hope I didn’t sound like I was harshing on you. I just found the disconnect amusing. I suppose an old VW Bus having more ‘starving artist’ cred than a shiny new camper…but only in fiction…is a good example of “Reality is unrealistic”
Trust me, I do the same thing in areas where I have knowledge.
You may be right, but I think the artist simply chose it for the hippy bohemian lifestyle it still represents. I sometimes need to remind myself to not let my automotive knowledge get in the way of enjoying a good story.
This is what happens when a someone who isn’t a car person tries to guess a vehicle from simple vector graphics XD
I at least think that’s what the show was going for, as far as I can tell.
