“Thanks, don’t mind if I do!”

“Oh my god, why are you eating Trixie’s flowers?!?”

“I was hungry. I missed lunch, okay?”

“Sunset, THOSE AREN’T MEANT FOR EATING!”

“Look, where I came from, we ate flowers all the time. Nothing quite like a nice daisy sandwich with garlic mayo and a pickle.”

“YOU COULD POISON YOURSELF! YOU COULD POISON YOURSELF ON TRIXIE’S FLOWERS!”

Sigh Okay, look here. See these? These are calendulas. That one is a pot marigold, those are roses. And these ones over here are pansies, violets and nasturtiums. All perfectly edible for a human. When I arrived here I made the mistake of eating some daffodils and I spent two days sitting on a toilet wishing I was dead. Which is bad because I really, really liked daffodils. It could have been a lot worse, though. After that, I started researching what I could eat and what I couldn’t so I didn’t make any other mistakes. Turns out, there’s a lot of edible plants that most humans just ignore.”

“But…but..”

“See those? Clover. Makes a nifty tea. Related to peas. You can eat the leaves, too, if they’re cooked, they’re a little hard to digest otherwise.”

“…I…uhh…”

“Ever eat a pine tree? Many parts are edible. Like, the inner bark is kind of sweet. And the seeds are good.”

“…Ummm…”

“And those tall weedy things in the corner there? Pokeweed. Parboil it twice with a pinch of soda, then throw it in a skillet and sautee it in butter. It tastes like spinach…”

“I…”

“I never could find a way to eat daffodils though. I kept doing research, but apparently that IS something humans can’t tolerate. I wish I had my old digestive system back. Still, I guess bacon is almost worth it. But on the subject of animal protein, did you know earthworms are edible too? I actually found recipes, wanna see them?”

“Trixie is…going to back away. Slowly.”

“I haven’t tried them yet, but if you want to come by, maybe we can do it this weekend…”

[EXEUNT TRIXIE]

“Heh…works every time. At least she left her flowers. Hey, anyone have some ranch dressing?”
