One last thing I want to point out about Frenemies. When villains refused friendship it takes a sometimes as a proof that they are irredeemable. Well, I can see some sense behind it.
 
Sure, I would like to see trio realized that their bond with each other matters to them more than revenge and they finally move on with their lives, but how that would work out? If the villains accepted friendship in that moment then there is still a big unresolved thing with Grogar being Discord in disguise. The finale just couldn’t work without trio still bent on the revenge.
 
So for me is hard to see that moment as that villains are irredeemable since that option was never really on the table. If they were about accept the friendship at the moment you would need to redone whole finale.

Actually, I wouldn’t turn Discord to the stone. He is basically a god. For him, 100 years in stone is a long nap.
 
What I would do is use bell to drain his magic and let him struggle through life like everypony else. You know, like find a job, pay rent, deal with taxes and this sort of thing. After a year he would beg for stoning sentence.
 
As for the trio, I would go even if some time in stone if they are gonna be released. If it would harsh, but maybe it would kick them to think about what they did. Something like that Twilight would release them after 10 years a said, “Fine you are getting another chance, but seriously cut that revenge crap!”

Right?! Discord should be the one in stone, not them! These three should at least be doing community service without their magic.

Or at least the writers could change the line ‘Forever together’ to something more positive to imply that trio will get released at some point in the future.
 
I think the trio deserved to be punished to some degree, but being condemned to be public statues for eternity? That’s ridiculous overkill.

Fingers fyaying crossed. And to be honest, I felt the same way about the finale. And when I saw further details about it, I was even more enraged.

I think the major problem here is that these three were portrayed sympathetically in their earlier Season 9 episodes, and then the finale told us they were irredeemable monsters, after many viewers had taken a liking to them. Sure, my “expectations were subverted”, but I recall feeling bewildered and unhappy by this finale. We’re clearly meant to celebrate with the ponies when they are petrified, but it really only made the ponies seem vindictive themselves.  
I know some fans think these guys got what they deserved, but I expected  
better from the ponies. They didn’t even let Twilight deliver a friendship speech to them! But I hold out hope the Season 10 comics will do something with them. I’ll bet there out by #12.

Well, Discord mocked the idea that to be reformed from the start and Fluttershy still gave him a chance.

I can maybe see Tirek, because he actually seems reasonable and sane. Cosy Glow literally wanted to erase all magic from existence which if most machinery is ran on magic, means there will be accidents and death, while Chrysalis literally is insane. The reason they stone them is literally because Chrysalis is like “NO I WONT BE REFORMED” right to their faces. People seem to forget that there was a moment in time where they could have shown regret and actually ask for help, but instead stupid bug yelled at everyone.
