AJ lives on the farm, with her wife Rarity and their 4 kids… or well, 3, plus heart stitcher, but AJ considers her her own.
Rarity was the one to carry Butterscotch, while AJ carried Apple Chip and Mint Chiffon. Yea its not ideal to have a gremlin growing inside of you when you need to do farm work, but u kno. AJ is stubborn, and she wanted to prove that she could. she a tough broad
her hair and her muzzle might be greying, but that sure doesnt mean she’s old and helpless. she’s just as strong as she was in her youth, and she makes sure you know it.
After Heart Stitcher is born, and Timber Slash (rarity’s partner, and stitcher’s father) yeets out the picture, rarity has a hard time admitting that she needs help. She has a newborn, as well as her own business with several stores to manage. I’ll get into why that is when I get to Rarity’s headcanon next - but it was like none of the mane six could get through to her and help her.
AJ of course, wasn’t having it. She was constantly at Rarity’s doorstep, offering her anything she could. Rarity rejects her help at first, but… AJ is such a family oriented mare that there was no way she was going to back down from helping a friend out - so she eventually lets AJ in and starts accepting her help.
And it all goes from there!! AJ loves and wants to protect Rarity with all her heart, and Rarity loves the stability, the dependibility, and (unfortunately) her stubborness. Theyre both very different ponies on the surface but thats rlly what works about them. idk i dont need to explain why rarijack works yall know why lmao
As an adult, and after Granny Smith’s death (I’d say she got to see the birth of Cherry, Big Mac’s son, before passing) - AJ is the head of sweet apple acres. It’d typically go to the eldest, but Big Mac is a simple man. would rather keep out of the spotlight and just be the brawns of the operation.
In terms of her relationship with her kids… starting with stitcher:
So as I said, AJ sees Stitcher as one of her own kids, and vice versa, Stitcher sees AJ as her mother. She has a great deal of respect for her and her loyalty to the family. Stitcher is not afraid to lay into ppl, and is rarely ever stiff and sugary sweet with anyone - but with AJ? she could never say a harmful thing to, or even think of cussing in front of her. It’s always “Love you mum” and “Let me help you with that mum.”
AJ likely has no clue about Birdie’s and Stitcher’s rivalry. Stitcher likes to keep those parts hidden from mother AJ.
Even if AJ can’t understand Stitchers fascination with make up and fashion, she is fully supportive of it - and when stitcher is a little foal, she’d let her practice her skills on her own face, or paint her hooves her favourite shade of pink.
Butterscotch is AJ’s baby. When Butters was born, her curly untamed hair reminded her so much of her own mother.
Butters has very low confidence, being very small and lanky, not really a leader, not really all that strong… but AJ is always trying to remind her of her worth (even if she’s a bit too blunt about it sometimes). Butters can never understand what she sees in her, especially when she entrusts her with taking over the farm. But AJ never loses hope.
Chip is definitely the kid she rough houses with. Chip is strong even from a young age, and is always tackling his ma to the ground at any chance he gets. Their relationship is playful, a little teasing (especially when Chip starts getting more romantic attention at an older age). When Chip is older and a big bulky stallion, Their playfights nearly scare Rarity half to death. no one is harmed tho dw guys.
Mint…. well, AJ will never say anyone in her family is a disappointment, but…. she’s not pleased with mint or their attitude. Mint spends all their time holed up inside, playing their computer games that AJ can’t understand. She ends up being very hard on them, trying to force them out of their room by brute force and harsh parenting. This makes their relationship pretty strained, with Mint resenting her and any forced familial bonding. They can never really connect together. It’s not that AJ doesnt want to, she just… that kid needs some sunshine and a bit of respect for their elders, dammit.
Mint would rather just stream all day.
but ye! AJ lives on the farm with Rarity, their 4 kids, as well as with Apple Bloom, Big Mac, Sugar Belle and Cinnamon. (Cherry doesnt live on the farm, he actually lives with his mother cheerilee, but is often at the farm on visits)
so yea… in short, this a loving, devoted family mare who loves her wife and kids - but she’s just a bit stubborn
