I like how you harp on about "b-but muh other meet-ups and small group convos". The point has been that the fandom wouldn't be what it is today, nor as big, if it didn't spread far and wide through 4chan versus elsewhere/other means.[bq]

And they're right. The online streams + the massive activity on the board(s) both shaped the culture on top of making it well-known. Not to mention that it was an untapped market that likely made hasbro much more cash, which is a big motivator for a company to keep them making the product.
