I always meant to get around to reading it but never did. Someone linked me to a reading of it years ago and I listened about halfway through that before my computer died and I lost the link to it.
You can do fine without, but you’d probably get at least a bit more out of it reading FoE first. Enough to be worth 600k words if that’s the only reason you’re reading FoE? Probably not. And it’s worth noting that there are some divergences of various types between the two which you may appreciate, hate, or be indifferent to.

No, it’s so derivative of FoE that you won’t get lost. But you might want to read FoE first because it’s a superior story.
