These are my ideas for the Next Generation of MLP taking place after the events of the show. Please note there are a lot of my head-canons and some of my personal ships/preferred ships. Please be respectful of my opinions :) (Smile) Additionally, I am not at all caught up with the current seasons at this time so there won’t be references to them until I watch the episodes!
I’ve been trying to finish this for months and finally I DIDS IT YAY. I started this back when I started the sheet for Star Bright but nevere got around to finishing it until nowww <3. It’s a mess and it’s not quite everything I wanted it to be but I wanted to get this posted so I could focus on Art Fight.I wanted to include something of him and Big Mac but ran out of inspiration and room.Quick Bio;Fluttershy and Big Mac’s first foal was born in their cottage. Fluttershy didn’t want to ‘bother the hospital ponies’ so they had a home birth. Their little boy, Cortland, was a cute little pegasus pony who took to the animals in Fluttershy’s home immediately. As a foal his favorite thing to do was ride around on his father’s back. He loved going out to the farm with his dad and also taking care of the animals with his mom.Like his mother and father he was a lanky foal, but he wasn’t shy or quiet like his parents. He would play with the animals in their care, and talk loudly to them about whatever came to his mind. Cortland gained his cutiemark when he taught a dog, who became his loyal companion, to sit. He found out his talent was training animals, and was able to train some of his charges to help him and his father on the farm. Big Mac wasn’t keen on the idea at first, him being raised to work and work hard and all, but soon saw that it was his son’s true calling and it made him, and the animals he trained, happy.Cortland’s a down-to-earth pegasus and very kind like his mother. However he’s not as shy or quiet as his parents. He’s outgoing and pretty relaxed, rarely getting upset or angered. However if you mess up his perfectly coiffed mane- he’ll be very very upset. It’s a perplexing peeve that Cortland has but its one that his friends and family are happy to allow him since he’s such a kind and otherwise steadfast stallion. With a talent for training animals, he now works with his mother offering animal training classes at her daycare/rescue center. He also helps to rehabilitate animals, get them ready to be adopted or released back into the wild, and trains animals to help with farm work. Cortland often helps the ponies who wake up animals during Winter Wrap-up.Truth be told, Cortland isn’t as down-to-earth as he seems. He’s very much about order but has learned to not let things bother him as much and to go with things. However, too much of things getting out of hoof can tip him over and this bottling of his need to feel in control may be manifesting in his somewhat extreme attitude about keeping his hair styled just the way he likes it.Cortland is almost never without his satchel full of dog treats, training whistles, spare leash and collar, and a bottle of mane gel.Studies from right to left;Cortland and FluttershyCortland was the first foal of Fluttershy and Big Mac. He was a soft lil’ baby that Fluttershy loved to coddle and snuggle. Months leading up to and after his birth, she began instinctively building nests big and small- at first she made more nests for the local birds that she usually did, and then she started making nests big enough for a pony until she refused to sleep in anything but a nest. Her nesting phase died down eventually (only to be jump started by her next pregnancy) but some nests still remain around her cottage (and even on the Apple Farm!) where she could spend quality snuggle and preening time with her babies.Cortland and Entropy ChibisDiscord and Fluttershy are BFFs and so of course Fluttershy made Discord a godparent to baby Cortland. Much to the worry of her other best friends (all also godparents) and Discord himself. Discord was very awkward with Cortland at first and avoided having to hold the baby for as long as he could until he found himself having to babysit both the duckling and a cottage full of animals for an afternoon. In the end, it worked out and Discord was less repulsed by the tiny feathery pony. Having Discord as his godparent meant growing up knowing Entropy and Clairvoyance as sort of his ‘cousins’. Family friends at the very least. Cortland and Entropy in particular have a strange sort of relationship that is more like a familial ‘someone you would never be friends with if you weren’t related to them’ friendship.Cortland gets overwhelmed by chaos and Entropy loves messing with others and using chaotic magic. It’s a pretty volatile combination but it also somehow has brought them to a more mutual understanding of one another. Entropy sees through Cortland’s ‘down-to-earth’ personality and Cortland knows that Entropy’s prankster nature is not malicious or as devious as others may believe. Entropy worries sometimes about Cortland’s kindness since many ponies have taken advantage of it, and because he’s not great at communicating he sometimes uses pranks or teases him in a poor attempt to point it out to him.Young CortlandAs a colt, Cortland loved wandering and getting dirty. He liked to visit the Everfree forest to find any sort of wild creature he could so he could befriend them. However when he got older, he suddenly hated getting dirty and disliked exploring, especially on his own. He’s happy to forget about his discomfort if it means helping an animal or a pony, but you won’t find him climbing in trees or splashing in the mud for fun anymore.Upset CortlandHis mane in particular is important to him to keep in place. Ever since he got his first mane styling from his best friend Styles he has been obsessed with keeping his hair just like that and only allows Styles to touch or cut his mane. His manestyle has changed a bit over the years of course but he has approved of the changes. If a pony actually messes his mane up he gets very worked up and will excuse himself to fix it and/or screech. If he does something that messes it up (like flying fast or working on the farm) then he will be less angry but still bothered and upset until he can fix it. He doesn’t fly much for a pegasus.Cortland and his DoggoCortland lives in a cottage adjoined to a rescue shelter and animal daycare so his family has a lot of pets as well as animals they take care of. Most of the animals are regarded as friends, since many of the free-roaming ones are wild animals who come to play and visit Fluttershy, and the animals who are closely bonded to the family (or certain family members) are regarded as companions. Cortland has a lot of bird and dog friends especially, but his companion is a big floofy male sheepdog named Seraph. Seraph was a puppy and Cortland a colt when they first met. Despite his name, Seraph was a rascally pup. When Cortland taught Seraph to play fetch for the first time, he earned his cutiemark. Seraph helps Cortland and his family a lot around the house and even on the Apple Farm. He’s a good, fluffy, slobbery boy.CortlandThis is the original finished drawing I did for Cortland, included for reference! His siblings are Ginger Gold and Aglais.
