I wouldn’t say it’s an “asspull”, but it does seem like a weird fixation on the writer’s part.
 
Also, from what admittedly little I’ve seen of the episodes beyond episode 2, they seem to be portraying Fluttershy as significantly zanier. A little… unhinged, even.  
Just a hot take. Not trying to complain, just observe.

I know, right? It’s perfectly understandable why a Hasbro executive (or somebody from the G5 production staff) wanted any mention of bronies removed from a series of slides (remember the leaks from December 2017?). It is much easier (and better) to deal with children!
