I think the manual for Zelda 1 also said it was a dragon/unicorn hybrid.
 
Aquamentus is the very first boss you fight in the entire Legend of Zelda series.

Aquamentus’s design was originally going to be a lot more horselike, before they decided to make him just a normal dragon.  
I think he actually had hooves in the cartoon…

Well the games never explain this stuff they just put you in the room to fight the guy and he looks like a dragon with a unicorn horn so that’s what I uploaded it as.
