If the equipment of all of the guards is common for all of them, then he would be shot by a smg or a handgun indeed. Difference: Distance. Distances in open water can be very very deceptive, I would guess 50 meters or more. At sea level and with spike’s scales, the bullet would be a bit more than a scratch. That close, a couple of handgun shots would be enought (and cheaper). But they would be much more reliable and spike would die, ending the story.  
And yeah, sniper rifles are quite sensitive to outer forces. Maybe the reason why won’t work now. A real sniper would know better, but she is clearly not.

Indeed, though due to it being such an offshoot, there is the possibility of it remaining in the offshoot.
 
I mean, maybe spike ends up on the run, pieces his wardrobe together from what they got, got a million possibilities.

When did I ever say that this would stay close to the story of Black Lagoon? It was inspired, definitely but this will branch off into its own adventure very soon.

Actually you’d be more accurate to say “Writer”, not artist.
 
Pia would make Spike man up in a heartbeat. However, Pia is not writing this and the one who primarily is intends for this to closely follow black lagoon, albeit with the characters replaced with MLP characters.
 
in this case, the character Spike represents is completely unable to do anything himself, gets his shit slapped all the time, and has to rely on someone else saving his ass all day every day.
 
The question is if the writing will veer more towards Pia’s tastes or if it will follow black lagoon more closely.

You know, I think it would’ve been interesting if this story had the twist that the briefcase and its contents were of absolutely no importance, and that it was actually Spike himself that was of value.
 
Of course, this page already disproves that, but it’s just a thought.

Well, considering that Spike took a bullet from what was presumably an assault rifle to the head without any lasting damage, I doubt that a handgun would do much better.
 
Honestly, I am far more concerned with how she used it to bash somebody over the head. Now, I am not a gun nut, but I’m pretty sure that sniper rifles are pretty temperamental weapons, which you don’t really want to compromise the integrity of by using them as a club. Specially one that fires .50 Cal.

Who uses a barrett 82A for point-blank shoot someone? In case it actually hits (the recoil is something to consider seriously) the bullet will just over-penetrate, not causing full effect, not even bleeding, as the bullet would cauterize the clean wound. Just use a friggin’ handgun!
