I have now read through the cartoon. Only Marini was shown in addition to Zecora as a zebra, and currently we know from the sketches made by Andyprice that original zebras with the same color scheme as Zecora exist. It is possible that Marini is not an “ordinary” zebra, as much as with the earth ponies and the pegasi. Marini revealed that the rhymed language that Zecora uses is not at all unusual. More like it is not “in fashion”. It is possible that Zecora has the rhythmic tone as part of her upbringing when she was young in her home country.
 
When the expedition arrived in Farasi after a week - with a full-rigged sailing ship it is possible to sail quickly between continents - Zecora revealed that she is afraid to return, “- my heart is filled with terror -” and it seems that she is afraid for what AJ and the others may come out for in Casabronco. When she met her friends, it seems that she was ashamed and not a little scared. We do not know why she went to Equestria, but it is clear that he carried several secrets and one of his friends may be an enemy. Or that there are enemies that Zecora fears could threaten her family and her friends.
 
It is obvious that Zecora had something to do with the mysterious prince as Marini suggests that the shaman from Everfree forest is very well acquainted with him in her birthplace. One can not help but wonder if she is either royal or from very high up in society as she is a tradition bearer, who has a high reputation in the world of Equestria. I bet the city of Zebrat is a bit inland from the port city that may be Farasi’s answer to Manehattan.

Personally I like how she drops the accent and rhythmic tone of voice when she’s proper pissed. Cuts deeper as to me it shows it’s a coping mechanism for Zecora. That perhaps she does it for her own sake rather than purposely trying to be cryptic and vague in her speech. Adds another layer to her character instead of it being seen as “out of character”. Everyone is different and everyone has a means to cope in a world where they’ve suffered great loss or hardship that’s unbeknownst to others. I think Zecora just couldn’t take the bs AJ was spouting which triggered her inner insecurities and lashed out unintentionally. I’ve done the same many times. I had a way of conducting myself while in school and work, I was very timid and very quiet most of the time. But I still spoke with respect to everyone. But when people acted badly towards me which was reminiscent f past trauma I’ve suffered, my entire disposition and demeanour changed and people get frightened of me. They never expected me to say the things I did or do the things I would normally never do and thought of me as “completely out of character”.
 
I guess I relate to Zecora in a way, cause there’s only so much you can take before you drop the act and show who you really are underneath the mask of insecurity.
