Judging by the “Elements” bookmark, I’m pretty sure the childproofing book is the fireproofing book. I imagine infant unicorns are almost as much of a fire hazard as infant dragons.
Also, for some reason, I just love the idea of a baby… who just so happens to have nigh-impenetrable scales, razor sharp teeth that can chew diamonds, and can breath fire so hot it rivals magma.
And everything is most likely canon.
Ten out of fucking ten, good sir!
I wanted to portray the early days of Spike being the new baby in Twilight’s family. Realistically, Twilight was far too young to actually handle the raising of a baby, so that means the responsibility had to have fallen on Velvet and Night. Most couples would probably struggle with trying to handle a newborn dragon, but if you think about what Shining and Twilight might have been like as babies, Spike may have been a cakewalk. Think about it: if Velvet and Night had already successfully raised two powerhouse children whose magic flares could have produced forcefields, elemental blasts, random polymorphs, illusions, charms, immobilization, transfiguration, animated furniture, and who knows what else… yeah. Heck, we’ve even seen Twilight has a penchant for bursting into magical flame when angry! How different is that from dragonfire?
My headcanon is that Velvet became enamored with Spike from the moment he was hatched. As soon as she was un-polymorphed and she laid eyes on that little babbu, her first thought was “He’s coming home with us.” Maybe Night was more reticent about adopting him, but it wasn’t long before he fell in love with the little guy. Regardless of whether he and Velvet ever intended on having a third child, they had one now, and his name was Spike.
Here, we see Velvet feeding Spike some applesauce with crushed gems. She initially tried to spoon-feed him, but he kept biting straight through the spoon (hence the ruined ones on the table) so she elected to feed him with magic, instead. A tad messier, perhaps, but messes are inevitable with babies regardless.
