Still seems like suicide to try and escape the cold by going in the direction that is going to be even colder, but I suppose as long as there’s a reason at all…

IIRC it was because the south was already overrun with millions of refugees vainly trying to outrun the cold (also because the north is richer in resources, with less people to contend with).
You know, I always questioned: why north? If you’re staring out in London, isn’t that the complete opposite direction you’d want to go in a situation like this?
