Making Twilight a princess was likely a move to take the pony who could keep Equestria safe with her unique power and put her in a position to more effectively project that power. Whether or not that is actually the case, not Tia just trying to reward Twilight, we’ll see in Season 4.
That’s the way I feel too. I wish we could get an episode next season where Twilight makes Celestia realize that even she isn’t perfect, and that it was wrong for her to push Twilight into being a princess even though she never said she wanted to be one.
Which is kind of worse. She’s coming off more like an overly-protective helicopter parent.
Also, is Starswirl actually a good guy? Celestia said he didn’t understand friendship and it looks like he wrote a spell that could shut down the elements of harmony, or at the least really screw up a lot of ponies’ lives.
If this is guidance it’s some of the worst I’ve ever seen.
Infact this makes it worse still. It literally makes her a bitch. She’s guiding her into situations that could kill her, or cripple them forever.
Does the average pony remember who invented the Canternet? No.
But they all remember Marker Buckerburg.
We don’t know much about Star Swirl either. Perhaps he was rewarded in another way, that we can’t know.
Starswirl the Bearded made many spells in his lifetime, and he died in relative obscurity seeing as only academic types know who he is. Twilight finished one spell that he left unfinished, and she gets turned into an alicorn princess. It doesn’t make sense no matter how you slice it.
I don’t see it that way, it seemed more like a reward for completing the spell. I really just can’t see Celestia as a manipulative tyrant or a troll.
HER subjects maybe, she did end up risking the lives of everyone in the Crystal Kingdom by not sending Luna to help just so Twilight could learn a lesson.
I was thinking the same thing. You’d think Celestia would have given Twilight a heads up that the spell was dangerous and that there was no known way to reverse it, wouldn’t you?
Manipulative? Yeah, but she keeps herself in check, praise be.
“What does it do?”
“Dunno, why don’t you find out?”
She made Twilight into a princess and didn’t even ask her if it’s what she wanted. That sounds a lot more like controlling than guiding if you ask me.
