Since the season 9 premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic evil is still stirring, and Equestria’s only villains will have to work together if they are to defeat Twilight Sparkle. But it looks like they will discover the perks of teamwork and hopefully the magic of friendship?…
Since the destruction of King Sombra, the former emperor Grogar tried push on with his plan to retake Equestria - by having the pony kingdom’s remaining villains - Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow - work together and defeat of the Mane Six. The only problem was the villains didn’t want to work together. They would much rather retake Equestria on their own. Of course, Sombra tried that and met a sound and final defeat instead. And to make it worse for Grogar, they turned out to be insufferable as they would always bicker amongst themselves and appeared unconcerned with how they could accomplish working together. This just didn’t seem to be worth their time. Grogar wish it was worth his either, but he knew he had the best of the worst in his deck, and he wasn’t going to fold, not until the Mane Six’s most dangerous foes came to some kind of accord.
To give them time to resolve their differences (and to let out some steam apparently), Grogar left the villains back in his lair. In his absense, Cozy Glow immediately assumed herself in charge and tried to organize a team meeting with Tirek and Chrysalis. However, Tirek was only concerned with getting back the level of power and physique he reached after absorbing all the magic in Equestria, Chrysalis was only concerned with exacting her revenge on Starlight Glimmer while talking to clump of wood (most likely the same wood that was once Mean Twilight) and neither of them recognized Cozy’s self-imposed authority. Through song, Cozy inspired some trust and cooperation in her fellow villains at first, but they stepped on each other’s lyrics by the end due to their respective egos. And so the three villains once again argued with each other. The fighting ended when Grogar returned and silenced them with a booming “ENOUGH!”, frustrated that the three still didn’t learn to work together. Chrysalis expressed her frustration as well because it had been weeks since Grogar summoned them to his lair, and they still did not know what his plan was. Even Tirek didn’t think the ibex had a plan to begin with. Grogar explained that his Bewitching Bell, the very talisman that contained the rest of his power, was sealed away by Gusty the Great at the top of Equestria’s highest mountain, Mt. Everhoof. Seeing this as the perfect test for Cozy, Tirek, and Chrysalis to learn teamwork, Grogar tasked them with scaling the mountain and retrieving the Bell.
At first, the villains found this to be an easy mission. But at the base of Mt. Everhoof, they saw that this was going to be difficult. Cozy Glow shared with Tirek and Chrysalis her plan to scale the mountain and claim Grogar’s Bewitching Bell, but they disregarded her and each set off on their own. Chrysalis headed through the forest, scaring off any creatures that cross her path, and used her changeling powers to cross the various hazardous terrains. However, once she was near the summit, the magical mountain winds prevented her from getting any closer. Cozy Glow trekked up a mountain pass and found the residence of a guardian hermit named Rusty Bucket, on patrol to keep anyone from facing Mt. Everhoof’s treacherous conditions. Pretending to be a pitiful, lost filly, Cozy Glow tried to convince Rusty Bucket to escort her to the top of the mountain. When Rusty refused, Cozy lost her temper, and Rusty warned her to keep her voice down or else risk triggering an avalanche. Cozy tried going up the mountain by herself, but all of her attempts fail. In an intense conniption fit, she caused a giant snowball to roll down on top of her and carry her back to the bottom of the mountain. Meanwhile, on the main path, Tirek tested the mountain winds and determined them to be too harsh to withstand, so he started building a campfire instead, and waited for the other two villains to return.
Later that night, at Tirek’s campsite, Cozy Glow returns cold and wet, and Tirek ridiculed her for failing to reach the mountain’s summit. Having already determined the mountain to be too difficult to climb alone, Tirek decided to let Cozy and Chrysalis do all the work and use what they learned from their inevitable failures to his own advantage. Cozy berated Tirek for his constant arrogance, and Tirek likewise criticized Cozy for her fake cutesy persona and constant manipulations. Suddenly, the pair were beset by an Ophiotaurus, a half-bovine half-serpent creature; it was drawn by the sound of Cozy and Tirek’s loud arguing. Before it attacked them, a second, female Ophiotaurus appeared, and the first Ophiotaurus became infatuated. The female Ophiotaurus was revealed to be Chrysalis, and she used the other Ophiotaurus’ infatuation to feed on its love and weaken it severely. Even though she save Tirek and Cozy Glow, she made it clear to them that because she needed their help to get to the top of Mt. Everhoof, even though it was painful for her to admit it.
Gathered around the campfire, Cozy, Tirek, and Chrysalis compared notes about their experiences facing the mountain’s elements until the conversation steered toward the Mane Six; from Tirek recounting how he tricked Discord in betraying the Mane Six and holding them hostage before Twilight’s eyes, to Chrysalis’ account of how she disguised herself as Cadance on her and Shining Armor’s wedding, to Cozy Glow wishing to see the Mane Six’s anguished expressions when she nearly erased magic from Equestria. The three villains came to realize that as much as they hated each other, they hated Twilight and her friends even more and enjoyed making fun of them. With this in mind, they decided to cooperate with each other for the sake of destroying the Mane Six.
The next morning, the three villains worked together to climb Mt. Everhoof, helping each other along the way. Near the summit, Chrysalis and Cozy created a vine bridge across a chasm, allowing all three of them to reach the peak. Eventually, they reached the cave housing the Bewitching Bell, but they discovered that the cave was surrounded by a magical barrier preventing entry. Cozy suggested that Tirek absorb the barrier’s energy, but Tirek could only absorb the energy of living beings. Cozy then suggested absorbing Chrysalis’ magic. Chrysalis perceived this as a betrayal at first, but Cozy assured her that it would just be for the purpose of breaking through the barrier, after which Tirek would return Chrysalis’ magic to her. With Chrysalis’ begrudging approval, Tirek absorbed her magic, powering up to his third form, but he only has enough power to create a small opening in the barrier. Cozy Glow, being the only one among them small enough to fit, flew through the opening and returned with the Bewitching Bell before it closed. With their mission complete, Tirek returned Chrysalis’ magic back to her as promised. The three villains were surprised to find that they enjoyed working together and relying on each other for help. They found that having others who will be there for you is… pleasing. When you use your power to help others, it feels…
Chrysalis - “NOOOOOOOOO!”
Chrysalis angrily rejected the sentiment, realizing she and the others almost fell victim to the Magic of Friendship, and refused to succumb to the “infection.” Fearing how powerful Grogar would be once he had the Bell, the three decided to continue acting as his servants until they were able to usurp him, after which they can go back to become rivals once more. A scheme within a scheme. The three villains returned to Grogar’s lair and told him that they failed to retrieve the Bewitching Bell. Despite his anger and frustration at their failure, Grogar was satisfied that they were able to work together as he commanded. As he left, Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow agreed with the emperor that they were indeed more powerful when they worked together as a team. Of course, little did Grogar know, these fiends are hatching up their own plot… without him! Now these “frenemies” will work together to have their revenge on the Mane Six, and with the Bewitching Bell and all its powers in their possession, nothing will stop them. Nothing!
