@redweasel
to add to this, even if you DID add too much butter and they somehow managed to actually bake, you would not get sick like this.
there are people that snack on sticks of butter, the effects of it would be to make you overly energetic. it would not induce vomiting, nor diarrhea unless you were lactose intolerant.

I think ounces is more likely. Two reasons:
Three tablespoons is only ~40g, I’m skeptical that makes enough dough for even one tray of cookies (‘though I’m about to go test that) so it seems unlikely to be in a book, but even if it’s supposed to be a small portion…
Three sticks is ~340g. 340/40 = 8.5
If she used over eight times the required butter I’m pretty sure it straight up wouldn’t bake - nothing would set and she’d just be left with a puddle of melted butter in the oven. Or some sort of caramel perhaps?
Three ounces is more like 85g, so she’d still be off by a lot, but they might actually cook. Maybe.
Tablespoons. It was three tablespoons, because three teaspoons is one tablespoon. It cannot be three cups of butter, because three cups of butter is six sticks of butter. And that is a pound and a half of butter. She was just one stick of butter short of making a pound cake.

Brown Butter Cookies
can verify. too much butter makes drop cookies into crunchy flat pancakes with holes.
however, said cookies also take 2 sticks of butter. so 3 tablespoons of butter would produce sugar flour balls.
